He wants to cash in like all the other UFA's right now. Crazy dollars going around.

Trade Markov right (frank)ing now.

If they ever really want to contain for the Stanley cup year in year out they need to stop hanging onto old guys that won't be there when that happens. And trading his rights at the draft is not a solution, not at all....why trade his rights for a 3rd rounder when you can have a 1st + prospect now ?

Carey Price will not win the Hart Trophy. He may not even be a finalist for the Vezina. It will depend on the way he finishes of course, but with this team, I don't see either happening.

Davis Drewiske is actually going to play?

No way Markov is worth that type of cash.

Not in my humble opinion.

Just because the cap is going up, does not mean everyone gets a raise.

As a fan, I wouldn't be mad at Bergevin if he traded Markov, depending on the return.

That being said, I think it would send an awkward message in the dressing room.

"We're not contenders now but we hope to be in a couple of years so we traded a good player for prospects"...yeah a team that wants to win one day is really a bad message to send to your guys.

Rather tell them "We believe in you even if you have a 1 in a billion chance of winning and we'll hang on to old guys just for the sake of barely making the playoffs to be eliminated in the 1st round every year !"

I was being facetious. Markov was and always will be, a much better all around player than Kaberle. His skating skills have deteriorated quite a bit, but he still has a lot left to offer, barring further injury.

If MB is only offering a 1 year deal and he is planning on sticking to that.

He might as well trade him.

He'll get 2-3 on the open market, easily.

Might even get 4-5 on the market. You know, there are dumb teams....like Philadelphia.

Well, I read it from beginning to end and I agree that nothing Bergevin does will make people happy. Even the ones who want him traded, are likely to be displeased with whatever return he brings. This is after all, the Montreal Canadiens fan base we are talking about.

You go on your whole season telling the players "let's make the playoffs, you never know what can happen once you're in."

Trading a guy like Markov now would send the message to the players that you have quit on the season as a GM and that they should do the same. That's how I would see it as a player.

No doubt he will get two, and if he's healthy he deserves two. But three is very risky.

If he can't fetch a good return just keep him...but I think they should seriously listen to offers.

Nice way of thinking if you want the team to stay as good as they were for last 20 years.
